Welcome to Smitty's TV.  This web site will help you explore the history of radio and television in the United States.  Smitty's TV is named after the television shop started by my father in 1959.

Although the shop no longer exists as a commercial venture, it does exist in name and as a hobby oriented shop located in the exact location where it began over 50 years ago.

A brief history of Smitty's TV is presented as a tribute to the establishment of a small business over 50 years ago.  The technological climate has changed.  The kind of enterprise Smitty's was could almost not be started today in this era of disposable electronic equipment.

In the radio and TV gallery, are representative photos of typical radio and television receivers covering the era from the 1920s to the 1960s.

The broadcast history page discusses some important facts about the history of radio and television broadcasting in the United States.

Useful data and the links page provide some valuable information for the collector/restorer of  vintage radio and television equipment as well as interesting facts for everyone.  Some of my favorite links are listed for radio/TV as well as many other topics of interest.

The Smith family from Lower California has a very interesting history.    I would like to share a bit of this history here on this page.

It is my hope that you will enjoy the pictures and information presented here.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggestions.  Please see the "items of interest" page for items I am seeking.  Any information or leads would be appreciated.
